At The Stewart House for the 2023 Pasadena Showcase House of Design, Marbé Designs reimagined the foyer, staircase, and upstairs landing as one continuous arrival sequence. The design balances the estate’s 1933 Colonial Revival character with a more sculptural, contemporary point of view. Original details were preserved and reframed through custom furnishings, layered lighting, art, and collected objects.
DESIGN INTENT
“The goal was to fuse the concept of the new, sleek modernity with traditional grandeur while paying homage to noted architects Marston & Maybury.”
— Marbé Briceno Velázquez, quoted in Architectural Digest AD PRO

A CONTINUOUS ARRIVAL
The foyer, staircase, and upstairs landing were treated as a single composition. Each transition connects material, light, art, and movement—turning circulation into the opening chapter of the house.
